Enrollment Checklists - Fall 2008
Check your e-mail
We will communicate to you primarily through e-mail so be sure to check it frequently as we will send important notices there about your enrollment. If you have changed your email address or just want to be sure we have the right one, please update your First Connections profile. If you think you might have missed a message from us, you can view a complete history of all e-mail sent to you by clicking on the Email link in First Connections.
After you're admitted
Expect to receive from us:
1. A copy of First Connections, a 104 page guide for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Beginning mid-February, check your mail box for your copy.
2. Your AppalNet username and password. This account information will be mailed to you about 2 weeks after you receive your admission decision letter.
Steps for you to take:
- Visit "My Checklist" in the First Connections web site for a personalized view, including completion status where available, of the enrollment steps listed below.
- NEW - Consider your summer options. Please visit the program web sites for more information.
- First Ascent - a 4 day backpacking adventure for freshmen
- Trailhead Academies - a 4 day leadership enhancement experience
- Non-Refundable Advance Payment. Deadline: May 1, 2008. In order to reserve their enrollment at Appalachian, newly admitted students must submit a non-refundable advance payment.
- Federal Financial Aid Application. Apply for Federal Financial Aid by the Priority Deadline (Note: You may apply after the priority deadline but may not receive priority consideration for certain grants): February 15, 2008 for North Carolina Residents, March 15, 2008 for all other students.
- Residence Hall Application. Deadline: May 1, 2008.
- Visit Campus. If you haven't already visited our campus, please make plans to visit us soon. Register online for a campus tour.
After we receive your advance payment
- Visit "My Checklist" in the First Connections web site for a personalized view, including completion status where available, of the enrollment steps listed below.
- Register for Orientation (available on or before March 1, 2008). Deadline for new Fall students to have attended Orientation or registered for the August Make-up Session: July 1, 2008. Register through your First Connections account.
- Final high school and/or college transcripts. Deadline: August 1, 2008. Submit to the Office of Admissions, Appalachian State University, ATTN: Application Processing, A.S.U. Box 32004, Boone, North Carolina, 28608-2000.
- Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) test scores (if applicable). Submit score information to the address in number 3 above.
- Report of Medical History/Immunization Form. Deadline: July 1, 2008. As required by University Policy and North Carolina law, students must submit this form before they can attend classes.
- Placement Tests (see below). Deadline: May 23, 2008.
- Math Placement Test. [ Who should take this test? ]
- Foreign Language Placement Test (if needed, in French, German or Spanish). Even if you are not currently planning to take a Foreign Language course in your first year, you should strongly consider taking this test. Foreign language courses are required for several majors, and we encourage you to take a foreign language as a freshman to internationalize your curriculum.
- College Student Inventory (for Freshmen only). The CSI is an online questionnaire designed to record your thoughts and feelings on issues related to college life and to help you make a smooth transition to college. No advanced preparation is necessary.
- Parent Portal Access (optional). Once you’ve been admitted, you may grant access for your parents (or another designee) to view your education record including being able to pay tuition online. You can provide them access to your record via the Parent Portal.
- Get your Appcard (student ID) - During Orientation or prior to moving in, visit Trivette Hall to have your Appcard made.
- Students seeking assistance from the Office of Disability Services, should complete the four step registration process.
