Usernames and Passwords
Different usernames and passwords are required to complete all your enrollment tasks. Here is a list to help keep them all straight. If you forgot your password or have a question about it, please contact the appropriate person in our contact list.
First Connections
Unless you’ve changed it, use the username and password that were assigned to you. Forgot your First Connections username or password?
Appalachian Email Account
- Username: Your official Appalachian username is your last name and initials (smithab)
- Password: A random number is initially assigned. You are required to change the password when you first log in. Forgot your password? Contact the Help Desk at 828-262-6266.
- How it is used: Your Appalachian Email account is your online connection to campus--a connection you will use throughout your career at Appalachian. You use it log into AppalNet where you can check and send email, register for classes, check your financial aid status, get news and personal announcements, review your class schedule and grades, review your appcard balances, communicate with your professors, pay your student account bill, view transcripts, and more.
- When assigned: You will receive your email account information in the mail about 2 weeks after you receive your admission decision letter.

Online Housing Application
- Use your Appalachian Email Account username and password (see above).
Access to AppalNET
- Use your Appalachian Email Account username and password (see above).
Foreign Language Placement Test
