Financial Information

Because Appalachian does not offer financial aid for incoming international students, all applicants must have sufficient financial resources to cover their expenses. Applicants who need financial assistance should consult publications concerning study abroad available through educational institutions, the US Information Service library, or US consulates. Students should also investigate the possibility of getting financial aid from their own governments.

Estimated Costs

A current estimate of expenses for one unmarried student living on campus for one academic year (fall and spring semesters) is $15, 645. Details of this estimate are in the table below. Students who bring spouses or children should allocate an additional $3,000 for the first dependent and $1,000 for each dependent thereafter.

In calculating expenses, students should understand that individuals who hold student (F-1) visas may not legally work off-campus during their first year in F-1 status. Applicants must not, therefore, count on employment, including part-time during the academic year or full-time during the summer, as a primary means of financial support while at Appalachian.
