Non-degree Seeking Students
Information for Non-degree Seeking, Visiting, and Teacher Certification Applicants
Non-degree applications are accepted on a space available basis. Applicants who are not accepted as degree-seeking freshmen, transfer, or graduate students are not eligible for nondegree status.
Applicants must submit completed application, a nonrefundable $50 application fee. Although official transcripts from college(s) previously attended are not required for applicants in the nondegree and visiting categories, we recommend that you have them available for advisement purposes.
This classification may be used only by individuals who do not plan to receive degrees at Appalachian. The course work cannot be used as a basis for admission to either undergraduate or graduate degree programs.
Non-degree students may take a maximum of 18 hours each semester. Because this classification is designed for students taking courses purely for their edification, academic advisers are not assigned. Nondegree students are encouraged to obtain the Student Handbook of Rights and Responsibilities.
Transferring Coursework
Graduate courses taken by non-degree students will not automatically be credited toward graduate degrees. Non-degree students not working toward certification must receive permission from the Graduate School before registering for any 5000-level course. Students seeking certification should have an approved Alternative Teacher Licensure Evaluation Form on file in the Reich College of Education along with the undergraduate application in the office of admissions.
Visiting students must provide approval (prior to enrolling) from their former college stating that the course work taken at Appalachian will transfer.
