For Transfer Students
Transfer students are admitted based on successful completion of college transferable credits. Technical, developmental and orientation courses are usually not transferable. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (as calculated by Appalachian) is required to be admitted. All grades earned in transferable courses, including repeated courses, are used in calculating the grade point average. Transfer applicants with less than 30 semester hours must meet the admission requirements for freshmen.
Students less than 24 years of age who have not completed the high school Minimum Course Requirement (MCR) must earn an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree or complete 6 semester hours in each of the following college level areas: English, math, science, and social sciences. Two units of a second language will be required of applicants who are high school graduates of 2004 and beyond before being admissible.
When to Apply
Transfer students applying for summer or fall admission are encouraged to apply 6-12 months in advance of their intended entry date. Transfer applications for spring entry are processed in early September of the preceding semester. Applications are usually processed in approximately four weeks after the completed application is received.
Transferring from a NC Community College
Students who enrolled in the North Carolina Community Colleges beginning fall 1997, and beyond, may possibly transfer to Appalachian as a junior and proceed to an upper division college upon successful completion of the requirements for an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate of Fine Arts degree. Students who complete the NC Articulation Agreement core curriculum requirements at a North Carolina Community College will transfer as having met core requirements at Appalachian if no grade of "D" was received. Completion of the core must be indicated on the official community college transcript to be recognized by Appalachian.
